A brief description of this unique method of exercise
Pilates, developed by Joseph Pilates in 1920, was originally designed to help injured servicemen and consisted of various exercises performed on hospital beds, hence the reformer design of springs and pulleys. It's development through the years has meant it's appeal is now far reaching to all populations regardless of age, level of fitness and mobility. Pilates is now integrated into nearly all top level sports as it's benefits are huge.
The Pilates method is based on 6 fundamental principles:
